Paslode Questions. (Answers are in no way authorised by Paslode and are my own. For further infomation, you can also get into contact with your nearest ITW Paslode service centre. www.paslode.com.au)

My paslode gun fires once or twice then stops.

This is not uncommon and can be caused by several problems.
  1. Gun dirty or dry and not lubricated.(strip and clean as per paslode's operating instructions. Ensure you oil around the o-ring at the fan or piston rings, which ever is present. Ensure the o ring is located properly and not pinched when reassembling. The gas contains a lubricant and ensures adequate oiling during operation.)
  2. Bumper damaged. ( the bumper returns the driver back to the firing position)
  3. Bent driver (more common in the bradder range)
  4. Insufficent spark ( check spark by removing cylinder, insert battery and activate microswitch and trigger in the order you would for normal cycle. The spark should jump clean across the gap.)
  5. Fan not working.(as above, the fan should run when the safety is depressed.)
  6. Gas no good or metering valve on gas cylinder stuffed.( check correct gas is used. Yellow valve for yellow receptacle. Red for red. Check expiry date on base of can. Swap for new gas and check.)
  7. Worn combustion ring. (The part where the fan oring seals against. You can feel and see a groove worn in the alloy)

It's hard to depress the safety.

  1. Check the oring on the fan. It has become pinched or fallen out of it's groove. Or has become dry and needs oiling.
  2. Bent or broken safety. Usually on the straight bradder.
  3. Bent front of cylinder body assembly on the framer. Tsk Tsk Tsk...Someones been using it as a hammer or dropped it. This is bad. The cheap way to fix it is to remove the cylinder assembly and carefully file the undersideof the front so as to allow the driver to slide freely when it's all back together.Too much off and the driver goes all over the place, too little, you keep filing. The quick way is to replace the cylinder. Half the price of a new gun after the mark ups.
  4. Broken yoke assembly, usually on the Trimmaster and on the Framer.

I put new gas in and it doesn't fire all the time.

  1. Check the metering valve operation. Remove the cylinder and push the little valve tit down on a hard surface several times. Some metering valves will squirt once or twice then stop. Ditch these ones. It is important to use genuine gas from Paslode as other gas may cause you trouble.
  2. Cold Weather. Warm the gas up in your hands or put it in your pocket on the way to work.
  3. Give the gas a shake, helps to sort out the bladder inside the cylinder.
  4. Dry internals. Check to see if the driver hasnt become stuck in the cylinder due to dry conditions and/or a build up of residue.
